Blessed are the rich,
for they need not worry about money.
Blessed are the famous,
for the world is their oyster.
Blessed are the popular,
for they will never know what it is like to be truly alone.
Blessed are those with good looks,
for the world is undeniably superficial.
Blessed are the talented,
for their paths are laid out for them.
Blessed are the skinny,
for they can eat whatever they like.
Blessed are those who know what they're doing with their lives,
for the most part of us don't.
It's sad, but it's true isn't it? All of us pursue those attributes, the world has taught us to look up to those attributes. And admittedly, those attributes aren't bad - they are positive characteristics; they are definitely not a crime to possess. However, the Bible does ask us to search deeper. Here's what it says:
Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Now who can feel blessed despite being poor in spirit? Who can feel blessed in spite of their mourning? It's a tough call, but it is possible with God's love.
